5 Conditions We Treat with MLS Laser, Plus How it Works

Here at our DeSoto, TX podiatry practice, Dr. Lisa Brandy now offers MLS laser therapy to patients who are seeking pain relief from a variety of troubling conditions. But what exactly is the MLS laser? How does it work, and what conditions can it treat? Here’s what you need to know:

What is an MLS Laser?

The MLS in our new laser treatment stands for Multiwave Lock Systems. When you choose MLS therapy, we’ll target sore spots on your body with two different wavelengths of light. In combination, they work to provide pain relief, along with several other benefits.

Now, why did we choose to add MLS Laser therapy to our DeSoto podiatry practice? Well, it provides an FDA-approved way to treat pain. Plus, it targets pain by speeding up your body’s ability to self-heal, making it a great tool in the field of regenerative medicine. Finally, beyond simply targeting pain, MLS Laser therapy reduces inflammation and boosts the production of healthy cells in your body, repairing internal damage and promoting a faster recovery from injuries, chronic conditions, and more.

5 Conditions to Treat with the MLS Laser Treat

This laser can relieve a wide variety of chronic conditions, along with acute injuries and more. Currently, we’re recommending MLS therapy to patients who have:

  1. Chronic ankle pain
  2. The chronic heel pain of plantar fasciitis
  3. Pain or injury in the Achilles tendon
  4. Neuropathy pain that needs managing
  5. Osteoarthritis in the foot or ankle

Now, there are many ways to treat each of these five concerns. However, laser therapy has one clear advantage over all of them: it’s a great way to achieve pain relief without taking oral medications. And that makes laser treatment an ideal option for people who already take prescription medications, and may wish to avoid interactions or complications.

Another reason to choose this treatment option? MLS Laser therapy is a virtually pain-free treatment option, and it does not cause any known side effects. Immediately after a session, patients can return to their regular activities, meaning you don’t have to worry about missing work or taking unwanted downtime. In fact, the only post-procedural guideline you’ll face is to keep ice away from the area of treatment for at least 24 hours after your session. Other than that? You’re free to go about your business, as you usually would.

Of course, doing so will be much easier after treatment, since most patients notice obvious pain reduction after just one or two laser therapy sessions. And, while the full course of treatment will depend on your condition and personal well-being, it’s comforting to know that you’ll find relief early in the treatment course.

5 Other Benefits of MLS Laser Treatments

Clearly, this treatment option is a great way to find pain relief. However, that’s not the only reason we love offering laser therapy to our patients. Here are some of the other MLS Laser’s super powers:

1. It can reduce swelling. After a laser therapy session, the areas we targeted during treatment receive an influx of oxygenated blood. In turn, the local blood vessels expand in diameter, improving both blood and drainage into and out of your legs. Then, when the blood and fluid is moving with ease, it’s much easier to prevent or improve foot, leg and ankle swelling, adding an extra bonus for patients who treat ankle sprains with the laser.

2. Laser therapy helps nerve growth and capillary development. As you now know, the laser’s dual light wavelengths are able to speed up the growth of new healthy cells. But that’s not all—those powerful light waves can also help your nerve cells reconnect at a faster rate—helping you understand why diabetic neuropathy patients may benefit from a course of MLS Laser treatments.  Plus, the light power can also help your body form new small blood vessels—aka capillaries—that work to connect your veins and your arteries). As a result, you may even be able to speed healing in a foot wound, helping prevent or heal an ulcer.

3. You could speed up cartilage development. Cartilage—the connective tissue that helps keep your joints working properly—is crucial to moving through the world without pain. Luckily, MLS lasers can help your body produce more cartilage, off-setting the joint pain of arthritis.

4.  Supports bone growth.  Even after a foot fracture, you may be able to speed up your recovery with MLS Laser treatments, since the therapy can help your body form new bone tissue.

5.  It can even heal muscle damage. Since the laser supports faster cell growth, it can also help with quicker muscle regeneration after a sprain or strain. And, while it’s doing so, it’s also supporting fibroblast and collagen production, helping heal any injured tissue—often, without scarring!

So, now you know that there are many more than five conditions you can treat with our new in-office laser therapy. And you should also know that, when you choose an MLS Laser treatment package, you’ll be signing up for pain relief, reduced healing time and stronger bones and muscles once the course of your treatment is complete!
